WING GIRLS U14’s TRIUMPH IN TOUGH TATTENHOE TOURNAMENT!
A thoroughly exciting Tattenhoe tournament saw WING girls triumphant in a 1-0 victory against a good FC Castlethorpe team in the final. It was a long hot day of football but after a slow start the girls began to click into gear and play some attractive football. There were some thrilling goals and some excellent individual performances but Wing's strength is their team ethic and collective friendships, which saw them win through against tough opposition. The goals of the day had to be the superb lob over the keeper from Chloe, a sensational run from the half way line by Elizabeth who beat 3 defenders before running half the field to score and a 25 yard thunderbolt from Emma in the semi-final! Despite hardly conceding a goal, Wing didn't finishing in the top 2 in the league part of the competition, which meant WING went the long way around as it were. Qualifying in 3rd they went into a Quarter Final game which, they won convincingly (2-0) and then progressed to the semi final against Tattenhoe, which saw Emma score a scorcher from 25 yards in literally the last kick of the game to propel WING girls to the final. In the final the WING girls defended well at times but always looked dangerous in attack with Yasmin buzzing around feeding the ball to Elizabeth and Chloe and Emma, Lydia and Courtney quashing any breakaways from a speedy FC Castlethorpe side. Castlethorpe had a very good right winger but she spent most of her time helping out in defence and when she did venture upfield Jazz and Emma soon arrested her progress. In the tournament as a whole WING played fluidly and backed it up with tremendous hard work personified by Courtney and Yasmin who worked their socks off all afternoon. It was a famous victory and well deserved by the girls shrewdly managed by Chris Sanders they kept their discipline and scored some excellent goals. Sophie in goal made some superb saves and generally looked comfortable throughout. Courtney, Lydia and Charlotte tackled like fiends and were too tough for their opponents to beat. Jazz was excellent at left back with some great cover play and tenacious tackling. Chloe and Evie on left and right of midfield showed great class. Evie with some neat passes and a couple of cracking shots on goal. Chloe with some great crosses and neat footwork. India was used sparingly to ease her in to her first tournament but she looked full of potential and definitely 'one to watch'. Evelyn's languid style is deceptive, she has great strength and is certainly not scared of a tackle. The trophy was received by Capt Evie and the team took the adulation and photographs in their stride suggesting it's perhaps not the only trophy they intend to win this season! AND with star players Ellie and Sylvi back from holiday it certainly looks like a season to look forward to. **Well done to all the girls the whole squad played superbly and were deservedly crowned CHAMPIONS! ***See below for a few pics from the Tattenhoe tournament and the friendly v Leighton on Tuesday
