Photographing children and teenagers is great fun…

Photographing  children can be challenging! Babies for example, will cry if they are not happy and young children will not wait forever for you to get the shot!

Photographing children is great fun for the sheer unpredictability kids provide. They are unselfconscious, mostly unaffected by vanity , so you can simply watch and capture their youthful energy on camera.

A ‘photo-shoot’ for a recycling campaign in Dacorum featured a family as models. All were ‘amateur models” but really threw themselves into it and we got some great shots. Interestingly it was the children (a boy aged around 9 and a girl of around 12 years old) who stole the show. They saw the whole process as fun and an opportunity to express themselves.

I enjoy photographing kids for exactly these reasons, they need little direction to give you an appealing image. They can also bring out the best in adults too…
